TRANSHUMANISM AND IMMORTALITY IN UTOPIA: A HISTORICAL ITINERARY
Francisco Martorell has a PhD in Philosophy and specialises in research into cultural imagery of the future and today's utopian-dystopian dialectics. He wrote the celebrated essayContra la distopía (La Caja Books). In this talk, the Valencian author will help us to explore the various forms utopia and transhumanism have taken. From his perspective, these are themes that he already approached in Soñar de otro modo (La Caja Books), in which he analysed the transformation of utopia in post-modernity, opting to forge a new utopia in the face of the sacred idol: global capitalism. This utopia/dystopia dichotomy, one of the central themes of this year's edition of Festival 42 and very evident in his two books, which have now been reprinted , will allow Martorell to uncover the theoretical inconsistencies and practical contradictions of the dystopian narratives created in films and literature.
