SHIRLEY-CON 2: FROM PAPER TO SCREEN
From the first film version of Hill House in the 1960s to its recent appearance as a television series on Netflix, Shirley Jackson's body of work continues to be adapted for the screen. In 2020, a voluntarist biopic of the author was released on Filmin which explored her world and how it was reflected in everything she wrote. But what are the differences between the psychological terror in Jackson's novels and short stories and the terror in the audiovisuals that adapt them? Mònica Garcia, director of the Sitges –Festival de Cinema Fantàstic de Catalunya and coordinator of Woman in fan, a study on the presence of women in audiovisual horror, will seek to decipher the mystery together with the genre writer Sara Martín and the author and ethologist Muntsa Mimó, a passionate fan of Jackson, as she demonstrated at Festival 42 in 2022.
