MAGIC, MYTHS, WITCHES AND BETRAYALS: THE POWERS OF YOUNG-ADULT FANTASY
Genre literature has always been a great ally for attracting readers from younger audiences. The mixture of identification and escape, together with the creation of fantastic worlds, is a powerful incentive for young people to approach literature, as is shown by the three authors appearing in this roundtable, moderated by the literary influencer and the new face of SX3, Maryam Assakat, who has a profound knowledge of young-adult literature . Taking part are Maite Carranza, a master of young-adult fiction, who this year has published La loba gris (Edebé), a prequel to her bestselling trilogy La guerra de las brujas, a novel full of betrayal, deceit, friendship and love. Roger Tarrés won the 2023 Llibreter Prize with L’amenaça verda (Fanbooks), his epic fantasy novel written in Catalan, the second part of the trilogy Fills d’Èodhum: Els cinc exèrcits. And lastly, Pol Castellanos, winner of the 2022 Alba 42 Prize for Best Young-Adult Novel, will speak, among other things, about his latest book, La cara fosca de les llegendes (Estrella Polar), which is about the truths and creepy mysteries concealed behind the fairy tales and legends we were told as children.
