BOARD, ROLE AND DICE: HOW TO TURN NOVELS INTO GAMES AND VICE-VERSA
Given their need for fantastical narratives to inform their dynamics and backstories, role play and board games are increasingly drawing from universes originally created as literary works. One example is L’horror de Rèquiem (Mai Més) by Marc Pastor, a comical novel with a Lovecraftian feel that has been transformed into Lo rol de Rèquiem, an irreverent narrative role play game. The same holds true of the famous epic fantasy novel El arcano y el jilguero (El Transbordador) by Ferran Varela, which has also been adapted, but as a board game. Some of the genre works created by Greta Mustieles have been similarly transformed, and the opposite process has also occurred recently with El velo (El Transbordador). These three authors, along with Maria Pérez, a writer, publisher and board game creator and player, will explain the process of adapting plots and characters to a new medium and reveal these platforms’ best-kept secrets.
* Activity organised in conjunction with the Festival DAU.
