BEYOND ‘ROMANTASY’: THE ETERNAL GAME BETWEEN LOVE STORIES AND FANTASY
Romantasy is an in-fashion subgenre, yes, but it also seems to be here to stay. Stories that combine fantasy with the romantic novel and whose target audience is mainly young adult readers... But not the only audience. Mixa, the literary prescriber and cultural animator will moderate a conversation between two female and one male national authors who have opted for literary works that use some of the factors in a personal way. Josep Rodríguez Ferrer made his storytelling debut with Mentre durin les espelmes (Voliana Edicions), a novel which comes under boys love. The second part, Mentre el cel no ens reclami, has recently been published. The author explores a story that combines supernatural elements with the everyday life of an LGTBI relationship in today's Catalonia. By contrast, Sofía Rhei takes us to a fantasy scenario in El rostro que te di (Loqueleo), a very curious Venice that has been bought up by Japanese aristocrats and where past and present live together in a setting full of secrets. Lastly, Sònia Boj distances herself from the most typical concepts of romantic love and in L’androide que podia estimar (Edicions SECC) she opts for defending free, imaginative love, combining action, love and humour in a thrilling, explosive cocktail.
