Record number of passengers on the Montjuïc cable car
Operated by Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), the Montjuïc cable car broke the record for journeys in August, reaching over 259,000, some 18% more than August last year and 13% more than August 2019.

This year has seen this means of leisure transport on Montjuïc mountain notch up more journeys than ever. With the exception of February, when the cable car was out of service for twenty days for its annual maintenance checks, the service broke its record number of users every month from January to August 2023.
The Montjuïc cable car was inaugurated in 2007 and is set to achieve a record number of journeys for a year in 2023, as the first eight months saw 1.38 million journeys, compared to 1.53 million for the whole of 2022.
It’s worth remembering that TMB offers the Barcelona Bus Turístic, Barcelona Night Tour, Telefèric de Montjuïc and Catalunya Bus Turístic services to visitors and tourists alike, as well as the Hola Barcelona Travel Card. The profits generated by leisure transport operated by TMB also help to fund the bus and metro public transport networks.
