Montjuïc 360º, the first hiking trail in the city of Barcelona
The first hiking trail with a route that is entirely within the city of Barcelona is now a reality. It is called Montjuïc 360º because, with a route of just over 11 km, it goes all the way round the mountain. However, the Federació d'Entitats Excursionistes de Catalunya (Federation of Hiking Entities of Catalonia) (FEEC) has certified it as PR-C 229. This means that the signs indicating the route are formed of two parallel white and yellow lines. Montjuïc 360º is an initiative from Foment Excursionista de Barcelona with the support of Barcelona City Council.

As part of Experience Montjuïc, on Sunday 8 October more than 200 people walked the length of the new 11 km sign-posted trail that goes around the mountain. The starting point of this circular route are the Jardins de les Tres Xemeneies. From here, it goes through the lower part of Poble-sec and carries on to the Miramar Gardens and Mirador de l’Alcalde lookout points, to Montjuïc Castle and the Mirador del Migdia lookout point. It then passes behind Montjuïc Cemetery and heads to the old Port castle, where it turns towards the Font de Ceres fountain, the monument to Francesc Ferrer i Guàrdia, the Font del Gat fountain, the Sculpture Gardens and the Parc de la Primavera.
If you are not familiar with any of these landmarks, the Montjuïc 360º trail will take you there so you can discover them. To follow the trail, simply follow the white and yellow painted signs, or the bollard sign posts attached to the ground. You can also follow the route on your mobile phone, as it is also published on Wikiloc.
The new Montjuïc 360º trail forms part of the Montjuïc Park Pathway Master Plan drawn up by Barcelona City Council, which is financed by the tourist tax (IEET), managed by the Fourth Deputy Mayor for Economy, Tax, Economic Promotion and Tourism. The trail is one of the projects included in the Montjuïc Park Action Plan 2019-2029 promoted by the Sants-Montjuïc district. This plan sets out a whole series of actions to recover Montjuïc as a green space in the city, to improve mobility there, recognise is as an asset and make it more accessible to city residents, including everyone with functional diversity, and to improve safety and coexistence throughout Montjuïc Park.
