First section of new escalators in service in Parc de Montjuïc
First section of new escalators in service in Parc de Montjuïc Work has been completed to replace escalators 9, 10, 19 and 20, facilitating access to the Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya (MNAC) from C/ Guàrdia Urbana.

The renewal, partly funded with Next Generation funds within the Destination Barcelona Sustainable Tourism Plan, is part of a project to replace all the escalators giving access to Montjuïc, significantly improving accessibility on the mountain as a whole.
BSM, the municipal company promoting the project, expects the process to renew all the escalators to be completed in the first quarter of 2026. To move forward according to the established calendar, work has now started to replace the central escalators between Pl. Carles Buïgas and Pg. Jean Claude Nicolas Forestier (sections 3-5-7 and 4-6-8).
The replacement of these two sections will be carried out in stages to ensure there are some escalators in operation at all times and allow users to get up or down the mountain accordingly. This means that the work to renew sections 4, 6 and 8 will not begin until the new escalators for sections 3, 5 and 7 are operational. The central section should be completely renewed by the third quarter of this year.
The new model of escalator will be installed progressively around the park and is more energy efficient and sustainable. The new model also has a remote control and monitoring system to optimise its operation and guarantee availability. Parc de Montjuïc, an iconic space where visitors can engage in sport and enjoy cultural and sports events, thus moves forward in improving accessibility to the mountain and reducing its carbon footprint.
