Sant Medir human-tower-making day comes to Sant Cugat
Sant Medir is a deeply rooted festival in some of Barcelona’s neighbourhoods and in Sant Cugat del Vallès too, where he is the village’s co-patron saint. In fact, the link between Sant Medir and Sant Cugat is very strong because the setting of the legend’s events and the location of today’s Sant Medir hermitage are both inside Sant Cugat’s municipal boundaries. What is more, the strong devotion felt by Josep Vidal Granés, the impetus behind the pilgrimage in Barcelona, for the saint comes from his having spent his childhood in Sant Cugat.
That is why it has now become a tradition for the two Barcelona neighbourhoods to celebrate Sant Medir and have —the Gràcia, Sarrià and Sants— human-tower-making groups put on a joint day event with Sant Cugat’s human-tower makers. It is usually held on the weekend following the Sant Medir festival (3 March) and organised alternatvely by one of the four groups every year. This year’s Sant Medir human-tower-making day will be on Sunday, 8 March at Sant Cugat del Vallès.
