Maria Buhigas
Urban architect with her own studio since 2014, who specialises in urban strategy and urban planning. She has a degree in Architecture from the ETSAB (UPC) and holds a Master of Science in Urban Planning from Columbia University. She has collaborated with the UN-Habitat Agency on projects in Colombia, Mexico, Peru, Paraguay, Ecuador and Cuba. She has also served as an associate professor in the Department of Geography of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona and as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Fundació Catalunya Europa de Pasqual Maragall. Previously, she was a member of the Barcelona Regional team (1999-2013), where she was in charge of the Urban Strategy Department (2006-2013). She was a member of the scientific advisory board of the European agency ESPON (2017-19) and councillor of Barcelona City Council (2019-2020). Since 2023, she has been the chief architect at Barcelona City Council.
