Pl. de la Font d'en Fargues
District: Horta-Guinardó
Neighborhood: la Font d'en Fargues
Heritage site of the Font d’en Fargues, emblematic and historical space of the neighborhood.
The Font d’en Fargues sector, south of Horta and north of the Turó de la Rovira, is located between the spring that gave it its name and the Carabassa stream, near Passeig de Maragall. The fountain had been well known for the quality and properties of the water, and festivals and gatherings were regularly held there..
From 1905, the lands of the Mas de Can Pujol, now occupied by luxury flats, were urbanized. The initiative was by Pere Fargas i Sagristà, following the style of garden city. Fargas himself, from which the name of the neighborhood comes, also promoted, around 1915, the construction of turrets for members of the Cooperative of Journalists. In addition to some of the buildings, the name of Carrer de Peris i Mencheta, dedicated to an illustrious journalist and press entrepreneur, has been left as a witness.
In this sector, in addition to the aforementioned Can Carabassa and Can Fargas, mention should be made of the Casal Familiar, built in 1928, the cultural and social centre of the neighborhood, in front of which is the church of Sant Antoni de Pàdua, built in 1936 according to plans of the architect Florensa, in the place where there had been an old rural hermitage.
