How to get there

In the Parc de la Ciutadella there is the Palau del Parlament building, the seat of the Parliament of Catalonia. Formerly the building was the Arsenal de la Ciutadella and was built together with the park as a military fortress. Próspero de Verboom was the military engineer who directed the works ordered by Philip V after the Catalan defeat of September 11, 1714. The pentagonal building still retains its original interior design and is a place visited by many political prisoners of the time who found torture and death. With the New Plant Decree, Philip V cut off all the rights of Catalan institutions and it was not until the beginning of the 20th century that the Commonwealth of Catalonia took the first step to restore them. Despite the period of dictatorship that he lived, Catalonia managed to recover the Generalitat in 1977 with the return of the exile of President Josep Tarradellas.
