On August 4, 1966 the Plenary approved the call for a public competition to build the market according to the deed of transfer of the land to the City Council by Benito Solans. The final award was in July 1967, where the Plenary approved the construction of the markets of El Carmel, Montbau and Besòs. It was in this plenary session that the councilor Bernard asked that Montbau be called La Teixonera, since it is the name of the place where it was to be built.
