Parade led by the little giantess Laia

Santa Eulàlia Day begins with the emergence of the gegantona Laia. Accompanied by the sweet sound of the flabiol, she’ll wend her way through the streets of the Gothic Quarter heading to Plaça de Sant Jaume. Before she gets there, she’ll stop at the Santa Eulàlia arch, where legend says the saint suffered from one of her thirteen martyrdoms. There, under the image of Santa Eulàlia, she will dance to the beat of her classic tune. 

Route: Palau de la Virreina, La Rambla, Carrer de la Boqueria, Volta de Santa Eulàlia, Carrer de Ferran and Plaça de Sant Jaume.

Federació d’Entitats de Cultura Popular i Tradicional de la Barcelona Vella

The mayor and the municipal corporation will hang the Santa Eulàlia banner on the balcony of City Hall which will preside over the entire celebration. Following this, the anthem Els segadors will be played and the gegantona Laia will pay homage to the banner and offer her dance before the authorities.  

Children's Proclamations

The children will read the Children's Proclamation within the framework of the Santa Eulàlia Festivities. It is carried out in a participatory way 900 students of 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th grade of primary school, in which children defend their right to well-being, equal opportunities throughout the city, and feel listened to.

Bell-ringing along the Gòtic neighbourhood’s streets

The carillon of the Palau de la Generalitat will ring through the streets around the building, which will transform into an exceptional auditorium where pedestrians can enjoy a festive performance.

Sardanas

With Cobla Sant Jordi - Ciutat de Barcelona orchestra

The Cobla Sant Jordi - Ciutat de Barcelona sardana orchestra will offer the last sardana dance in the annual winter festival, where dozens of Barcelona residents will dance in circles.

The dance will conclude with the Parade of the Laias entering Plaça de Sant Jaume, but you can continue to listen to the band's tunes with the last dances that will bid the festival farewell until next year.

The Laies Walk and Santa Eulàlia Dance

For Santa Eulàlia Day, all of Ciutat Vella’s female giants change their name to the shorter form of Eulàlia, ‘Laia’, to celebrate one of the festival’s oldest and most exciting events. The doors of the Palau de la Virreina will swing open to allow the Laias out, who will then dance their way to Plaça de Sant Josep Oriol.

Route: Palau de la Virreina, La Rambla, Carrer del Cardenal Casañas, Plaça del Pi and Plaça de Sant Josep Oriol.

6.45 pm: Giantess display

7.30 pm: Parade of the Laias

After being displayed for a while under the darkness of night and in the magical light of the square, a parade will start, led by the gegantona Laia, who will lead her fellow giantesses to Plaça de Sant Jaume. But before they reach it, they’ll stop at Baixada de Santa Eulàlia in front of the saint's chapel, where they will lay a wreath and the giantesses of Plaça Nova will perform the Santa Eulàlia Dance.

When the retinue reaches Plaça de Sant Jaume, the giantesses will parade under the Santa Eulàlia banner hung from the balcony of the City Council; the gegantona Laia will perform her dance and the giantesses of Plaça Nova will perform their dance again, but this time the long version will be played by Cobla Sant Jordi - Ciutat de Barcelona orchestra. On the final stretch, all the giantesses will join together to offer a unique, special image that can only be seen on this occasion, in honour of the patron saint.

Finally, a castell de focs (fireworks display) will end the Santa Eulàlia Festivities until next year.
