New mobility changes on Calle del Comte d'Urgell due to the L8 extension works
From 23 February, Calle Comte d'Urgell between Plaza de Francesc Macià and Calle de Buenos Aires will be closed to traffic for one year due to the construction of the future FGC station in the square. Avenida Diagonal and the affected interurban bus stops will be reconfigured to prioritise public transport users.

This cut joins the other already in place since January on Calle del Comte d’Urgell, between Calle de Rosselló and Calle de Còrsega due to the construction of the Hospital Clínic station.
Changes to prioritise public transport
The four terminals for 13 interurban bus lines on Calle Comte d’Urgell, Calle Comte Borrell and Calle Buenos Aires will be moved to the mountain side of the Diagonal, between Plaza de Francesc Macià and Avenida de Sarrià.
To accommodate them, the central section of Avenida Diagonal between Calle Numància and Plaza de Francesc Macià will be reconfigured to provide more capacity for buses in both directions.
- City exit direction: The layout will change from one bus lane and three general traffic lanes to two bus lanes and three general traffic lanes.
- Sea direction: There will be one bus lane and one general traffic lane, which is one less than currently. The other lane will be designated for outgoing traffic.
The aim is to improve access for private vehicles to L’Eixample via the Numancia-Berlín-París route.
As for the cycling network, a one-way bike lane will soon be opened on Calle de Villarroel, between Avenida Diagonal and Calle de París. This will extend the cycling routes from Avenida Diagonal toward L’Eixample and connect the cycling infrastructure with Calle de Londres and Calle de París.
The future of L8
The work to extend the Llobregat-Anoia FGC line and connect it to the Vallès line includes the construction of a 4-kilometre tunnel by a tunnel boring machine for most of the route and three new stations: Hospital Clínic (interchange with L5), Francesc Macià (interchange with streetcar) and Gràcia (FGC).
