Parc del Centre del Poblenou - Nius i Pous del Cel - Enter on Cristóbal de Moura, between Bac de Roda and Espronceda
In 2008, Parc del Centre del Poblenou was opened. This green space was conceived as an haven isolated from external pollution in a historically heavily industrialised neighbourhood. The architect Jean Nouvel designed the Pous del Cel [Sky Wells], circular structures that open up the plant canopy, in the park.
While the neighbourhood is no longer covered by those black clouds of times past, pollution has not disappeared. Our atmosphere contains a multitude of satellites and spacecraft that make up busy space traffic.
In this installation, BAU (College of Arts and Design of Barcelona) reinterprets the Pous del Cel through a paradox: the natural spaces we seek out in order to ‘get away’ have become a showcase of industrial damage. This project makes us question to what extent we can maintain this duality between nature and progress without compromising the natural spaces we have left.
