Parc de L’Auditori. Enter on Padilla, 153
Emergency Lights, by the Escola Massana, uses light as an artistic medium to raise awareness about the impact of private transport on urban pollution. Inspired by Barcelona’s environmental issues, where measures such as the Low Emission Zone have partly cut pollution levels, the work questions the effectiveness of these policies and makes other forms of pollution visible, such as mass tourism and industry.
Located in the gardens behind L’Auditori, the installation consists of a series of light structures that evoke car shapes. Using alternating red and white lights, it simulates the chaos of urban traffic, generating an immersive and reflexive ambience. The movement of lights not only represents the saturation of transport but also invites spectators to reflect on the need to tackle the factors that contribute to pollution right across the board, including visible and invisible factors alike.
