Disseny Hub Barcelona, Sala A - Irena Sendler, 1

Author:
Rosa Tharrats

Through a symbiotic and subtle installation, Rosa Tharrats draws us into a dreamlike landscape in which sound, light and matter interact with one another.

The sculptures follow a precise ‘light score’: light sources vary in direction, colour and intensity, creating a kaleidoscopic interplay of reflections that change with perspective as the pieces rotate at different speeds to the rhythm of the music. On the floor, salt - an element that permeates the entire installation, which also contains gold leaf and bacterial cultures - forms a canvas above which Tharrats' sculptures hover, a delicate balance between gravity and a desire to float. The installation thus becomes a space for contemplation that immerses the spectator in alternative, mirror-like worlds. Through a phosphene effect, the last of the sculptures invites the observer to bring the inner light to the surface - both literally and figuratively.

Trained in fashion and costume design, Rosa Tharrats (Barcelona, 1983) is an artist with an interest in the sensorial and spiritual communication between different materials and bodies. Her work usually takes fabric as a starting point, expanding into installation, sculpture, performance and the moving image. Meditation practice and ritual performance are common aspects of her work. Other recurring features are the concepts of transformation, symbiosis and the relationship between the natural and the artificial.

Her work has been exhibited at Manifesta15 (Barcelona, 2024), Liste Art Fair Basel (Basel, 2023), TBA21 (Cordoba, 2022), Art-o-rama (Marseille, 2022), Centre d'Art Maristany (Barcelona, 2022), Zona Maco (Mexico City, 2022), MACBA (Barcelona, 2021), Ehrhard Flórez (Madrid, 2022 and 2018), CCCB (Barcelona, 2021), Museu de l'Empordà (Figueres, 2021), Bombon Projects (Barcelona, 2020 and 2024), Arco Madrid (Madrid, 2019), Apulia Land Art Festival (Italy, 2017) and Galeria Cadaqués (Girona, 2015).
