The installation You are here – 41°23’59’’N 2°11’04’’E is a large pin in the city of Barcelona. Physical space has become almost impossible to understand without digital geolocation apps. Buildings, public spaces and mobility itself are described in coordinates resulting from sophisticated algorithms working with large amounts of data. The new landmarks are now those with the best ratings, most likes or most visits on social media. ETSAB aims to stimulate reflection on how the digital world is reformulating and prioritising the urban environment, and how this can be reflected in the city’s physical spaces. A large 15-metre pin marks a specific point in the city, but it also shows how space is a reference for the subject: a spectator when identified from a distance, a protagonist when positioned directly below. From afar, this piece is an urban landmark, and up close, a space for activity and civic participation.
