Auditori de Barcelona (Llanterna) - C. Padilla, 53
Range in Between is an installation that proposes a perspective on light as a key instrument in the sociocognitive relationship of the world, people, and space. It is an immersive, contemplative, and dynamic device that reflects on gender identities and challenges binary perceptions through a choreographic dramaturgy of interaction between light and matter. This reflection is achieved through a visual landscape where laser light interacts with various materials, resulting in the prismatic splitting of a beam of white light. The resulting rays scatter in all directions and manifest themselves to our eyes in textures and colours. It is a dance that speaks to the nuances and ranges of vulnerability in constant change and modification, from perception to action, as an essential process. A gesture to reflect on how we relate to the unfamiliar and the uncoded.
Jou Serra is a lighting designer and visual artist based in Barcelona, working with light and space in performing arts, installations, and architecture. He is interested in research and creating spaces for reflection where light is at the core of visual, artistic, social, and philosophical inquiry. He holds a master’s degree in architectural lighting and trained as a stage lighting technician in Granada. He graduated from the Salzburg Experimental Academy of Dance (SEAD) in contemporary dance and composition. He has rounded off her training in artistic installation with Irma Marco, in lighting design courses with Ana Rovira, Thomas Bourreaus, and Valentín Álvarez, and in the Art and Feminism course with Maria Llopis at the Massana School, as well as further training in gender and anthropology at the Barcelona Centre for Contemporary Culture (CCCB). He co-directs Animal Religion, where he experiments with the synergies between body, light, and sound.
