c-58PK0 1:12 is the title of an artefact-sculpture that reinterprets to scale the lighting device that floats above the traffic lanes on the bridge over Avinguda Meridiana in Barcelona. The product of an engineer’s dream, it exemplifies the desire for weightlessness, infinite space and the structure to ‘bend’ light. Scale gives things dimension, creates class hierarchies and defines the world to which something belongs. This project seeks to increase the number of scales of this type of structure and to expand the sizes in which it can exist. Rather than approaching this project as a formal and exact replica of the original, the aim is to interpret it in a new order of scale, leading to different constraints and opportunities.

Max Milà Serra’s practice derives from the ‘natural’ world, drawing from plants, flowers and structures, as well as from engineering or architectural interpretations of the physical forces that govern them. Whether a seed or a bridge, these original elements are shaped or transformed by light, movement and transistors in an effort to understand them more deeply.
