Concerts by a host of artists and musical groups, new performance spaces, music on the beach, the most classic and the most modern sounds… Everything is part of the musical programme of La Mercè, divided between Música Mercè and the concerts organised by radio stations, as well as BAM, which also includes the concerts of Acció Cultura Viva. From 20 to 24 September, La Mercè is music.

In the programme of Música Mercè, a series of concerts that aim to be a kind of gateway to the world, you will feel different accents and rhythms. Here you will see reflected, musically, the diversity and cultural identity of the city and beyond: from the symphonic sounds of the Barcelona Municipal Band (20th; Plaça Major de Nou Barris), to proposals combining jazz and folk such as those of Magalí Sãre and Manel Fortià (23rd; Jardins del doctor Pla i Armengol); the singer-songwriter Marwan (20th; Avinguda de la Catedral); the pop, rock and folk of La Ludwig Band (20th, on the beach of Bogatell); the electronic music hybridised with traditional sounds of the Galician Mercedes Peón (Saturday, 21st; Teatre Grec); the undeniable talents of Rita Payés and Javier Colina (23rd; Jardins del doctor Pla i Armengol); the Mallorcan pop of Maria Jaume (20th; Platja del Bogatell); the indie of Cala Vento (21st; Avinguda de la Catedral) or the latest creations of Figa Flawas and Oques Grasses, with their new album Fruit del deliri (20th; Platja del Bogatell).

Add to the list the performance of talents with Moroccan roots such as PINAN 450F (20th; Jardins del doctor Pla i Armengol); the great star of Morocco OUM (22nd; Teatre Grec); Aïta Mon Amour (Widad Mjama) (20th; Passeig dels Til-lers de la Ciutadella) or Maalem Hassan Boussou, who will perform with his group in concert with Raúl Rodríguez (21st; avinguda de la Catedral), and you can already start to get a first idea of a very diverse programme, where you will also find from the rumba of the Arrels de Gràcia to the folk music of Estònia dels Puuluup (22nd; jardins del doctor Pla i Armengol), among many other proposals.

You’ll see it all on eight stages: el Teatre Grec, Catedral Avenue; Sant Jaume square  (havaneres on Sunday, 22nd); Doctor Pla i Armengol gardens; Til-lers avenue in Ciutadella park (within the Terra i gust fresh market); the Plaça Major in Nou Barris, in front of the district’s headquarters, as well as Menéndez y Pelayo street, where there will be concerts by the radio stations, and Bogatell beach (Mediterràniament stage).

Música Mercè programme includes a large-scale concert paying tribute to the fiftieth anniversary of the inauguration of the Sala Zeleste on Carrer Argenteria (Sunday, 22nd; Avinguda de la Catedral).

These are just some of the musical proposals for La Mercè. Check the website of the Festa Major de Barcelona for more information on the artists and groups programmed.
