Walking tour: The Barcelona of Quijote and Cervantes
Miguel de Cervantes is one of the authors most widely studied by students of universal literature. His work Don Quijote is famous worldwide but one thing few are aware of is that Barcelona plays a key role in the second part of this novel.
We invite you to join us on a walking tour to discover Quijote’s Barcelona. And we are doing so now to take advantage of the proximity of 23 April, Sant Jordi / St George’s Day, and also World Book Day.
On our route, we will pass by what used to be the site of the printing press where Cervantes discovered the famous Quijote de Avellaneda was printed and we will learn about the link between the author and Barcelona Cathedral. We will also be able to listen to Don Quijote’s adventures with the famous bandit Perot lo Lladre, whom a street in Barcelona is named after, and how our hero was defeated on the old Platja de Maians (today’s Port Vell). At the end we will have the chance to comment on all the episodes that we will relive during the route from the spectacular terrace of the Hotel Duquesa de Cardona, on the emblematic Passeig de Colom.
