Sixty new homes for elderly people handed over in the district of Sant Martí
The homes, for people over the age of 65, are part of the municipal public development at C/ Veneçuela, 96, in the neighbourhood of Provençals de Poblenou. The block offers rental flats with official protection, totally adapted and accessible, with specific services so that residents can maintain their personal autonomy. The block brings the number of housing projects in Barcelona of this type, with services for the elderly, to 27.The homes were built by the Barcelona Municipal Institute for Housing and Renovation (IMHAB) and are managed by professionals from the Municipal Institute of Social Services (IMSS), who are tasked with ensuring that residents have access to the services they need to maintain their personal autonomy and improve their quality of life.
The homes have telephone lines connected to the telecare service, multi-purpose rooms for communal activities, concierge services, geriatric assistance and cleaning and an internal alarm service for possible incidents.
In addition, the block in C/ Veneçuela also has various communal areas, distributed in four greenhouse-style rooms and two terraces with different orientations, plus shared services such as a laundry, a storeroom and a space for drying clothes.
This is the 27th block of homes for services for the elderly to be built by the City Council in the last twenty years, bringing the total number of homes of this type in the city to 1,626. Next year will bring a further two blocks: one with 152 flats at the Casernes de Sant Andreu, and another with 47 homes at the Espai Germanetes in L’Eixample. Another development is under way in the neighbourhood of La Salut, which altogether will bring the number of homes with services for the elderly in the city to nearly 2,000.
