The Barcelona Sewerage Maintenance contract contemplates the conservation of the city’s 1,650 kilometres of sewers. It includes repairs, work and the maintenance of the entire network, as well as the cleaning of coastal waters. The new contract will also include two new services:

  • Cleaning of drains, to minimise the risk of flooding from rain. The plan is for 15,000 to be cleaned every year, 60 drains a day.
  • Structural inspection of the network to improve the functioning and state of conservation of the drainage network, with 120 kilometres of sewers to be checked every year.

The tendering process includes sustainable public procurement measures. The new contract will be for eight years with the possibility of a further two and a budget increase of 3.4 million euros a year compared to the current contract, reaching 184,294,060 euros (VAT not included). The contract also includes the subrogation of the current workforce, made up of 201 workers.
