Grief and rejection at the femicide of a woman resident in Horta-Guinardó
Not one more! The male violence which resulted in the murder of a woman in the district of Horta-Guinardó violated the most basic of human rights and highlights how women remain unprotected in the face of this type of violence. A minute’s silence was held at noon today to condemn this latest femicide, which occurred on Sunday, 2 June. The City Council fervently condemns male violence towards women in general and the latest femicide which occurred on 2 June. To this end, the protocol for mourning established with various institutions and entities has been activated. The protocol is designed to offer a coordinated demonstration of grief and rejection through different communication channels and raise public awareness on the need to put an end to sexist violence. The protocol includes a minute’s silence, held simultaneously today in Plaça de Sant Jaume and in front of each of the city’s district offices.
Barcelona City Council pledges to continue making every effort needed to guarantee women’s basic right to live their lives free of any type of sexist violence and reiterates its support for all women who experience this situation.
