Gearing up the Barcelona Logistics Institution
A new centre is being created to offer specialised training in the sphere of logistics, sales and admin, broadening the range of education and training available and promoting the qualification of professionals linked to this industry in the city. Created in collaboration with Port de Barcelona, the new facility will have 345 places and come into operation for the 2022-2023 academic year.Training offered by the new Barcelona Logistics Institute will include 165 newly created places, leading to the following qualifications:
- Product and logistics sales assistant (PFI)
- Specialist in administrative management
- Higher specialist in administration and finance
- Sales specialist (logistics profile)
- Higher specialist in international commerce
- Higher specialist in transport and logistics management
- Higher specialist in administration of networked IT systems (cyber security profile)
The centre will also offer specialised training in transporting goods by road, auxiliary warehouse tasks, organisation of transport and distribution, commercial and financial management of transport by road, sales and marketing, market research support and stowage.
The centre will provisionally be housed in two spaces at Port de Barcelona: the Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport and the World Trade Center. It will move to its definitive location in 2025, in the new hub for knowledge, innovation and training at the Sant Bertran wharf. Port de Barcelona will be responsible for conditioning the facilities, while the Barcelona Education Consortium will fund materials and training.
More specialised and professional training
The creation of the Barcelona Logistics Institute is in line with the work of recent years to set up education and training centres in professional spheres. This process began with the creation of the Bonanova Institute, at the Parc Salut Mar, and continued with the Barcelona Technology Institute, the Barcelona Sports Institute and the Barcelona Food Institute, at Mercabarna.
The goal is to concentrate the talent of teaching staff and students to generate quality training, with more direct ties with companies to favour employment and labour insertion.
The centre also complements the training offered by the port, which includes a wide array of activities linked to leading specialised centres such as the Barcelona Nautical Institute, focusing on nautical sports and boat renovations, the Nautical Faculty at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), the oldest in the Spanish state in this specialism, and the Escola Europea – Intermodal Transport, a leader in training in transport and logistics.
