Corpus Christi 2024 marks 600 years of giants in Barcelona
The 700-year-old festivity of Corpus Christi is being held from Thursday, 30 May, to Sunday, 2 June. The city’s streets and squares are set to fill with traditional activities and a varied range of culture, with the 600th anniversary of the giants in Barcelona as the central theme this year.In addition to the traditional jaunts by the giants, various exhibitions are in store, including the one at the Museu Etnològic i de Cultures del Món de Barcelona entitled Ciutat Gegant. 600 anys de festa i tradición. The display features various giants from Barcelona and other international figures, on show in the city for the first time thanks to the collaboration with the city’s coordinator of giant groups.
At the Casa de l’Ardiaca, home of the History Archive of the City of Barcelona, there’s a chance to see the original document from 1424, which forms part of the Papers de gegants display. Elsewhere, at the Museu Diocesà de Barcelona we can find the exhibition Ara ballen! Els gegants a la processó de Corpus, explaining the past and present of these procession figures. The Casa dels Entremesos is hosting the exhibition Gegants del Món, looking at the giant scene around Europe and on other continents.
Other activities are also being held during Corpus Christi, some of them requiring advance booking on the website.
