Thirty children from six city schools were appointed by the mayor today as “city spokeschildren” and tasked with engaging with different social and political representatives in the city about the 11 demands, 30 proposals and 100 plus ideas set out in the Children’s Agenda, designed to improve the well-being of people in their age group in the city.

During the 2024-2025 school year, the Children’s Loudspeaker will meet with the City Assembly, the Citizen Agreement for an Inclusive Barcelona, the Barcelona Ombudsman’s Office, the Full Council and others to achieve commitments from adults to improve the well-being of children.

The constitution of the Children’s Loudspeaker starts the latest stage of “Parlen els nens i nenes”, a municipal programme for research and children’s participation that guarantees children’s right to be listened to in the social sphere, helping them to be active citizens.

The constitution of the new children’s participation space, the Children’s Loudspeaker, or Altaveu d’Infants de la Ciutat, comes within the context of the city’s role as ‘Barcelona, European Capital of Democracy’.
