300,000 euros in emergency humanitarian aid for Gaza
Given the humanitarian emergency faced by the population of Gaza and in response to the call from the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), the City Council has approved 300,000 euros in special aid. The funds will help tackle the basic food and water needs of the population and Palestine refugees currently in the Gaza Strip.According to the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), the distribution of food and water is one of the most urgent basic needs in the region. Estimates indicate that the aid could reach some ten thousand people in need of urgent assistance to survive.
The city has a specific instrument for approving special subsidies to support emergency humanitarian action. In this case, the special aid will reach the Palestine population through the UNRWA, the institution with the greatest capacity to act in the area.
The special funds come in addition to the municipal agreement with the UNRWA, in place since 2012 in the context of the triangular Tel-Aviv-Gaza-Barcelona agreement whereby the City Council allocates 95,000 euros a year to the Palestine refugee population.
