A green lung in Sants-Montjuïc as the new Parc de Can Batlló opens
The Parc de Can Batlló has nearly 30,000 square metres of greenery, with spaces for people to spend time in, sports courts, children's games and space for dogs. The remodelling process, which will continue with a second stage, is part of the Climate Plan to adapt the city to the challenges of the climate emergency. The space has been designed with a central esplanade and a large meadow with paths, a hundred benches and seats, an area with basketball hoops, children’s games and a dog recreation zone.
Greenery accounts for over 10,000 square metres in all, with 486 trees and nearly 9,000 plants, maintained with groundwater from a new tank built in the park itself.
The new park also integrates the industrial heritage of the area and does away with the urban barriers that existed there.
The future: more uses for local people
The second stage of the project will progress in parallel to the renovation of the industrial buildings that form part of the process. Specifically, a second children’s play area is planned, along with a skate park, an outdoor amphitheatre and an ornamental spring. Over 3,500 square metres of solar panelling will also be installed on the industrial blocks.
