Would you wear a cowbell? Perhaps if it were an electronic device and wearing it would make you a significant part of a unique stage production... you would agree to become a musical instrument. Come along and you’ll form part of the herd.

A herd is defined as a group of animals of the same species that are either together or move in a group. We often refer to the sheep that were among the first animals to be domesticated by humankind, from which we obtain milk, wool and meat. Almost every one of them wears a cowbell. And when you are invited to form part of a migrating flock moving from one place to another, you may also wish to be one of the forty lambs who, in these open-air performances, chooses to wear an audible signal around their necks. No, it is not a cowbell, but rather a remote-controlled electronic loudspeaker.

Ramat simfònic invokes the gregarious spirit and the animal instinct of human beings, which in turn inspires the movement of the two main performers. Let yourself go, move with your instinct, and if you agree to carry one of the speakers, thanks to your movements, sound will travel through the space; you will perform a sound composition in motion.

This show was conceived by Quim Girón, creator of the company Animal Religion, author of the award-winning piece Indomador (Grec 2015), among many others, and one of the most prominent names on the contemporary circus scene in Catalonia; and by the cyborg artist and choreographer Moon Ribas, who for years has worn sensors implanted in her feet to capture telluric currents, and who investigates movement through technology. The two artists have been collaborating since 2019, mixing cybernetics and performing arts in creations such as Fenomen (Grec 2021).

A coproduction of Animal Religion, Sismògraf. Festival de dansa a Olot, support for creation from FiraTàrrega and Fira Mediterrània de Manresa.

Supported by Institut Català de les Empreses Culturals de la Generalitat de Catalunya.
