Baró d’evel

The group, the individual and space. The first in a new three-part series by the Catalan-French company, a piece by and about the group to be followed by a solo show and an art installation.

Guillermo Weickert will be replaced by Pep Ramis on 26 and 27/7.

This is the first in a three-part series in which pottery is both the material and the gesture of an exploration of the company’s worlds in the making, a journey through the ways in which this performance ensemble believes and works together. Qui som? [Who Are We?] has a clear focus: that sleep is an exploratory, transformative power, an imaginary force that extends beyond each person to connect them with other presences, a way of finding one’s bearings on dark journeys and in secret lands. This is debated. This is lived. In colour. In clay. In art. Between waste and eternity.

‘Our inner worlds, our private territories, are breeding grounds for the social landscapes of the future,’ says Camille Decourtye, one of the two-person company. In this show, they seek to highlight what keeps joy and excitement, what remains and what sings and dances inside us.

Baró d’evel are creators of staged ceremonies that draw from different arts to engage in a conversation peppered with compelling images. Movement, musicality, conception of space and artistic exploration converge in the fusion of these two creators and performers. One of them is the Frenchwoman Camille Decourtye and the other is the Barcelona-born Blaï Mateu Trias. Always looking for new, playful spaces, they bring a special musicality and rhythm to their movements. Together they have created many shows, including Bestias (2015) and the two-part Là, sur la falaise (2018-2019).

Qui som?, a show with international co-producers and mostly Catalan performers and creators, is the first of a three-part series, a show by and about the group to be followed by the solo show Qui soc? [Who Am I?]. The trilogy will conclude with a ceramic art installation, On som? [Where Are We?], which will take visitors on a sonic journey through craft.
