Pepa Plana / Ferruccio Cainero

An angel escapes from the canvas of a painting, only to discover that the world was not as she had imagined. A richly visual multidisciplinary work that takes a poetic look at the darker face of migration.

Who has not seen, at home or in the dining room their aunts and uncles, an example of those religious pictures full of angels? Well, one of those innocent creatures is the star of the latest show presented by the clown Pepa Plana, who teams up with the playwright and director Ferruccio Cainero, an expert in the world of Commedia dell'Arte. Our angelic central character wants to fly and play the role of guardian angel, but things do not work out as she wishes. OK then, we’ll forget flying, now she wants to go underwater, where she thinks it will be easier to get around. In this watery world, recreated using video footage produced by the Nueveojos studio, the angel will enjoy many adventures, until she discovers that the bottom of the sea is not as she had imagined. One of the great European clowns premieres a show that, despite being full of comedy and humour, also reminds us of the most tragic face of the world in which we live and, like all good clowns, places a mirror before our faces. But, don’t worry, because, although this story could never have a happy ending, it can open doors and windows to hope and, especially, pay tribute to those who have lost their lives whilst asking for the chance to have a better life.
