This latest example of cooperation between the Grec and Sónar, Catalonia’s two leading festivals, features a duo of the most restless sound artists around: Ryuichi Sakamoto, winner of an Oscar for his soundtrack to the film The Last Emperor, and Alva Noto, aka audiovisual artist and producer Carsten Nicolai. Sakamoto and Noto will present the album summvs, whose title fuses two Latin terms, summa and versus. This is, then, the sum and the opposition of Alva Noto’s electronic mastery in processing sounds and Sakamoto’s acoustic talent at the piano. Followingvrioon, insen, revep and utp, this latestworkis their fifth collaboration. Take the initials from all five and you get “virus” – a series of five pieces with clearly infectious intent.
