The leading figure on the Argentinian tango scene today fuses gritty sensuality with contemporary language in a daring show that combines tradition and innovation.
She has danced exclusively for the Rolling Stones. She has performed with the orchestra of Daniel Barenboim. She has created such acclaimed, prize-winning musicals as Tanguera and Chantecler Tango. These are just a few highlights in the career of Mora Godoy, an artist who joined the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires as a classical dancer and is today, after 14 years spent touring the world with her company, a member of the National Tango Academy. Whilst maintaining the traditional essence and sensuality of the tango, Mora Godoy has renewed the genre, experimenting and creating a new way of telling stories through dance. We will see her in a show in which she fuses tango and milonga with candombe, electronic and salsa music in vibrant scenes that strip tango of its melancholy. This production is steeped in the spirit of Buenos Aires whilst, at the same time, illustrating the evolution of tango and its different styles, from early “farolito” and “guapos” to today’s technified style.
