“La Batalla de Los Gallos” is a cock fight, a duel between rap singers, who improvise powerful rhyming raps to combat each other with flows and lyrics set against a musical background. It is not just a question of technical dexterity, however: these performers also need to display a fighting attitude
to defeat their opponent and show who’s best. The Red Bull Batalla de los Gallos, staged at the Grec Festival, is the national final of a knockout tournament that began in several cities last May. The best lyricists from those qualifiers now do battle in Barcelona, and the winner will represent Spain at the international final in Mexico. By staging this event, Grec’08 continues its commitment to street poetry, providing valuable support to different forms of urban culture that are generated in our country.
