True: Da Ponte’s libretto for Don Giovanni, which Mozart turned into an opera, is a profoundly masculine story of an impenitent philanderer. But, what if the protagonist were a woman? The Austrian composer’s opera provides the starting-point for a theatre experience in which the myth is reworked and mixed with texts and music from different origins. This production liberates the classic from convention by including songs by Nat King Cole, melodies from the film Love Story and much more. Music, theatre and passages from works by the “father of sadism” are all fused in this free version, a pure divertimento and a truly surprising musical collage performed by outstanding artists.
