When she was 19, Dee Dee Bridgewater read a biography of the singer Billie Holiday, becoming almost as enthralled by the singer’s tortured life as by her voice. It is no surprise to learn that in the 1980s, when she played her idol in the musical Lady Day, she found herself with a hit on her hands. Now, Dee Dee pay tribute to the legendary blues singer, interpreting Billie’s songs, but in her own style. Dee Dee Bridgewater is a versatile artist, an actress and singer and, since 1999, an ambassador for the FAO.
