The Cantata for a Blue Heart, composed in 2006 for theWorld Sacred Music Festival in Fez (Morocco), was born out of a meeting between Arabic-Andalusian melodies and French poetic writing. To mark the 30th celebration of World Music Day, on June 21, the French Institute of Barcelona will revolutionize the building designed by Josep-Antoni Coderch in 1972, turning it into a veritable “boîte à musique” (music box).
Amid a profusion of flowers and aromas from the sea, this concert will bring together Catalan, French and Moroccan children in a great choir. For the shortest night of the year, the Institute will illuminate the public with an ocean of texts by Allain Leprest, recited by Charles Gonzalès and performed by the soloists Enzo Enzo and Romain Didier in the Catalan version by Miquel Pujado.
A string ensemble, its members formed at the music schools of Catalonia, will accompany this “Ode to the Mediterranean”, evoking the Arabic Spring, which galvanised both the Maghreb and the Mashriq. A performance that will reverberate as a call for peace and brotherhood amongst people everywhere.
