Catalonia emerged from the migrations of the 1960s with a new mixed identity, and the contributions of the newcomers served as a source of cultural richness. This year a musical tribute will be paid to the mixed Barcelona born of migration, with artists such as Alizzz, Maria Arnal, Queralt Lahoz, Momi Maiga, Macaco, Nakany Kante, Kiki Morente, el Niño de Elche, Anna Ferrer and Las Ninyas del Corro taking the Teatre Grec stage for one night.
All of them have their roots in the migrations of that time or more recent ones, which brought people from the Maghreb, sub-Saharan Africa, Italy and Cuba to Catalonia. For one night, we may be able to hear sounds that will bring to the stage the nuclei of the shanty town that, not so long ago, filled the Montjuïc area, inviting the artists to an imaginary dinner around a long table set up in a pre-Olympic Barcelona and full of objects that allude to the city’s migratory history. The soul of Carmen Amaya, the Barcelona gypsy who gave birth to the Catalan rumba, and the mixture of Latin and African ethnicities are also an integral part of this concert, a celebration of Barcelona’s musical melting pot.
