Elegant and formal, but also risky and innovative, this company is one of the lighthouses of Canadian dance and has been applauded around the world, presenting three recent choreographies signed by women.

Ballet BC (Ballet British Columbia, Vancouver) has a repertoire of more than 45 shows, some of which are particularly known within the current choreographic scene ranging from Ohad Naharin to William Forsythe through Emily Molnar, who has been precisely the artistic director of the company since 2009. She is one of the three authors who bring their creations to Barcelona, interpreted by the eight dancers and members of the company. Molnar was a member of the National Ballet of Canada and also a soloist at the Frankfurt Ballet. In November 2018, the British Columbia Ballet premiered their creation To this day, which we will now be able to see in Barcelona. It is a choreography of blues rhythm and the guitar of Jimi Hendrix in which the interpreters, dressed in bright colors, turn the sound of the instruments into movement as well as they are able to leave the stage in silence, something rather common in the work of Emily Molnar. She manages to connect them with the songs and turn them into small pieces of silent physical theater with a touch of humor.
With the choreography of the artistic director of the Ballet BC we will be able to see two more pieces: One by Sharon Eyal, an artist born in Jerusalem who danced at the Batsheva Dance Company and is co-author with the also Israeli Gai Behar Bedroom Folk, a choreography with electronic music by Ori Lichtick created for eighteen performers at the Nederland Dans Theater. It is such a hypnotic piece, as bold as wild and full of energy. It starts with humorous solos and ends in spectacular group moments.
The third choreographer is Crystal Pite. She is the author of Solo Echo, the last piece of the programme. It is based on two Brahms sonatas and is about a journey from adolescence to maturity, stopping in when we seem to have lost something in the journey. Seven performers dance Solo Echo, proving the potential of dance as a vehicle for poetical expression.
