The Navarrese town of Altsasu was the scene of the events recounted in this play: a fight nearly seven years ago involving two Guardia Civil officers, their partners and various local residents. One agent wound up with a broken knee and two people were detained. The investigation was underway when the Basque Country Terrorism Victims Collective asked the National Court to consider the case a terrorist crime, with everything this implied for the accused. Transcripts of statements made by the protagonists during the trial, press clippings and content found on social media serve to shape an account that approaches the facts from a perspective that is fictional and non-biased while remaining rigorous and honest.
The production is part of the Cicatrizar (Healing) project of the Nuevo Teatro Fronterizo, led by José Sanchís Sinisterra and Carlos José Reyes, which calls for the performing arts to take a role in overcoming conflicts and reflecting on the recent past. In this vein, which vindicates the right to memory and the use of history in theatre productions, María Goiricelaya and the company La Dramática Errante have chosen the Altsasu case, both to question the abuse of the use of the term "terrorism" and to seek a collective and non-traumatic way to heal the pain caused by this case. La Dramática Errante is a company created by Ane Pikaza and María Goiricelaya, current directors of the Olite Theatre Festival, to produce stage projects that encourage reflection and social change.
