SILENT READING: DARE TO BE QUIET... OR NOT
Literary festivals such as the 42 Festival celebrate the joys of reading. So why not read during the Festival itself? Bring an old favourite, a recent discovery or a book you just bought at the 42 bookshop; it doesn’t matter. Everyone’s welcome to participate, bringing one or several books to this workshop led by author and comedian Joan Antoni Martín Piñol, with the following format: participants will sit in a circle and read quietly in ten-minute sprints, followed by a few moments to share their impressions out loud. As with the books they bring, participants are completely free to decide how to engage with the activity: anyone who wants to can share their thoughts with the rest of the circle, exchange books with the person sitting next to them to try out something new, recommend or critique the work they’re reading… After all, reading is currently both a solitary and a social phenomenon, and in this session you’ll be able to decide what you like better: reading alone and forever holding your peace, or connecting with other readers and bonding over the stress of your never-ending to-read lists.
