PALMA AND ÁLVAREZ: TWO TRILOGIES FULL OF INDEFATIGABLE ADVENTURES
Who doesn’t like a good adventure trilogy set in the past, especially if it’s a work of the fantastic? Félix J. Palma’s Trilogía victoriana, made up of El mapa del tiempo, El mapa del cielo and El mapa del caos [translated into English as the Victorian Trilogy: The Map of Time, The Map of the Sky and The Map of Chaos], was one of the great Spanish genre bestsellers between 2008 and 2014, selling up to 600,000 copies in 27 countries thanks to its blend of science fiction and elements of steampunk, its unique tribute to H. G. Wells and its ability to bring together episodes of the 19th century with boundless imagination. It’s no surprise, then, that the trilogy is now being reprinted in paperback, coinciding with the release of Palma’s new book El gran timo de las hadas [The Great Fairy Fraud]. Art historian from Salamanca Victoria Álvarez has also been reprinted lately, in this case coinciding with the publication of her Annabel Lovelace novel Hojas de dedalera [Foxglove Leaves], and also became a phenomenon following the 2009 publication of her Dreaming Spires trilogy, which is set in turn-of-the-century, post-Victorian 1903 and is made up of Tu nombre después de la lluvia [Your Name After the Rain] Contra la fuerza del viento [Against the Force of the Wind] and El sabor de tus heridas [The Taste of Your Wounds]. The secret to the success of this trilogy lies in its combination of mystery, romance, journalism, travel, and scientific and paranormal elements, in addition to great plotlines and memorable characters. Together, the more than 3,000 pages spanning both trilogies will allow Palma and Álvarez, guided by avid reader and re-reader Carla Campos, to offer participants a truly magical experience. Historic. Inexhaustible.
