WU MING-YI: REALISM, MAGIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL AWARENESS
Ursula K. Le Guin compared The Man with Compound Eyes, by Wu Ming-Yi, with Latin American magic realism. Thanks to the efforts of the Chronos publishing house, this is the first book by the Taiwanese author, translated into 14 languages, that we can read in Catalan, in spite of his international success. This is realist eco-fiction intertwined with native Taiwanese myths and centred around two very different characters who speak about how empathy, memory and writing can heal the wounds inflicted on the soul. For the first time in Catalonia, under the guidance of the journalist and specialist in speculative fiction Adam Martín, we will discover Wu Ming-Yi's vision of the genre and his concern for the possible utopias and dystopias that threaten humanity and what role the environment and the protection of nature will play.
