VERNE, LOPLOP, NOCEÀ: THE REALITIES OF THE NON-REALIST COMIC
Comics have always been a perfect testing ground for experimenting with fantasy genres, adapting to new trends and movements, as well as giving new forms to classic stories that have become cult genres. But what is the situation like here at home? Are Catalan authors opting for innovation and non-mimetic genres? It would seem so, and two of the people with their fingers on the pulse are Montse Mazorriaga and Arnau López Mazorriaga, a mother and son from Terrassa who have jointly published a graphic novel on the Jules Verne classics, entitled La Luna de Verne (Serendipia), a clear tribute to that pioneer of adventure and science-fiction novels, based on an alternate history. There is also the case of Ricard Efa, who this year began his dystopian series Noceà (Mai Més), published in three different languages (Catalan, Spanish and French), with Noceà 2 arriving this year. Toni Benages is a renowned illustrator who focuses on fantastic genres, with such well-known works as the recent El cercle de Loplop (Males Herbes). Miquel Codony will be speaking with them, so that they can explain the latest trends in the world of Catalan comics and give the audience a taste of what they are working on.
