UTOPIAN FUTURE IN STAR TREK
Throughout its long history and with an infinite number of avatars, the Star Trek universe has always been characterised by its utopian vision of scientific progress and the advances we can achieve through technology. This is a vision that is in stark contrast to those offered by other franchises in the genre, which opt for more apocalyptic versions and view scientific progress as a danger in the hands of humanity, rather than as a tool for building a better future. The Star Trek experts Sergi Toboso (author of the Cosas de Star Trek YouTube channel), Miguel Ángel Parra (author of Mujeres de Star Trek, published by Diábolo Ediciones) and Ignasi Arbat (manager to the radio programme Ningú no és perfecte and contributor to the Cosas de Star Trek channel) reflect on the trekkie world’s utopian concept and share their vision about technological utopias.
