STEVEN ERIKSON: FROM THE MONUMENTAL MALAZ TO THE RENOVATION OF EPIC LITERATURE
Malaz is one of the most ambitious and daring examples of epic fantasy sagas written in recent decades. The Canadian writer Steven Erikson has established a place for himself in the international literary scene , and become Canada’s king of fantasy. His desire to renovate the genre led him to create a complex series of books, the first of which was published in 1999. Since then, his work has been continuously reprinted and translated, while the first direct sequel to Malaz, The God is Not Willing (Nova), recently appeared in bookshops. Alexander Páez, who translates Erikson and specialises in genre literature, will talk to him about his perception of the genre, the growing Malaz universe and the creation of such an ambitious, exhaustive and extensive work as his saga.
