SCIENCE FICTION PIONEERS: ELVIRA AUGUSTA LEWI BEYOND THE 200TH FLOOR
Festival 42 continues to emphasise classic references in fantastical literature in Catalan that the general public has often forgotten. One example is the writer Elvira Augusta Lewi, a pioneer in genre fiction in Catalonia. Born in the early twentieth century, Lewi's career is based in Barcelona and encompasses journalism, translation and narrative, always with a firm commitment to the cultural development of women. A conscious, committed and modern writer, Lewi presents texts that clearly connect with the fantastical and the German tradition. One example is Els habitants del pis 200, published in 1936. The expert in contemporary Catalan literature Neus Real, one of the top connoisseurs of Lewi, will offer an overview of her work highlighting the genre elements and reclaiming her legacy in the Catalan fantastical literature heritage.
